"Margvelidze Winery"
People interested in Racha ethnography and wine can have a wonderful experience in "Margvelidze Winery", which includes a two-century-old cellar and a house built in 1925, where today a guesthouse-type hotel is located in the village of Akaleli, Ambrolauri district. Guests who come here can taste local wine with delicious Rachu dishes in an ethnic environment. Also purchase of home-made sanovag (chireuli, jams, tklapi, Rachuli ham) on the spot.
Margvelidze's family winemaking originates from the 19th century. The traditional activity of generations was winemaking, which took the form of a business in 2014 and today, along with a 7-room guesthouse, seasonally hosts Georgian and foreign tourists from America and various European countries. The cellar and the traditional Rachuli house in its present form represent a synthesis of old and new styles, which, thanks to the seventh generation of the family, perfectly blend together, telling the visitor the history of the region and presenting different eras as one family.
To get to the winery, you need to search for it in Google Map as "Margvelidze Winery", and to taste the wine and the delicious Rachuli dinner, you can contact in advance and place an order. Today, the business is run by Mariam with her grandfather, who will provide you with an English-speaking guide during your visit and will introduce you in detail to the history of the family and their traditional activity of winemaking and viticulture.
