Tradition (History) Revived in Wood

Temur Gugeshashvili, along with his wife, Elene, is the founder of the "Artist's House" hotel. It's not just a phrase; the visitor who comes there will truly feel a mystical world—a world where everything is spiritual: extraordinary paintings or photographs, furniture or rugs, rooms or verandas/balconies, courtyards or buildings—even a simple stone breathes and rejoices in a safe, free environment. Although the buildings have been completed for a long time, the family periodically updates, changes the exterior/interior, yard decorations as it suits the living. That's why the "artist's house" always retains a special magic.

It is said that everyone creates their own world. Temur's grandfather's brother was a famous master of wood; his ancestors were also masters, and Temur grew up in this environment. In 1968, the family moved to Tbilisi, and 14-year-old Temur began studying at an industrial school, specializing in woodworking, then at the Pushkin Engineering Faculty. After completing his studies, he was drafted into the army. Fate led him to work in a German wood workshop. Working with Germans taught him precision and a focus on quality. In 1973, he returned from Germany and started working as a teacher of woodworking. Life with its pains or joys, successes or hopelessness, sometimes without understanding and avoiding, sometimes "adoring" him, unfolded in different stages with Gaira. In 2008, he decided to return to Oni and create the magical world he always saw in his imagination—a world where he would always be a host sharing beauty, love, and warmth with his guests.

Building this world turned out to be extremely difficult and time-consuming, but he had Elena by his side, a woman who felt and saw exactly the same way as Temur—Elena, a talented artist and bearer of boundless kindness.

Days passed, and history was "written" from wood, as if they had a "magic stick" instead of a cutter and brushes. Forgotten carvings, furniture, transparent balconies, walls, wine cellar, wooden utensils, food storage chests, the yard came to life. It came to life as if the beauty created by Temur and Elena during the day, night after night, the gods of Olympus breathed their soul.

The son of Temur and Elena, Nika, is also an artist. Isn't it surprising? A photographer who can capture and convey the breath of Racha nature in his photographs. He likes to take others to those fabulous places where those who return will be able to boldly say:"

"I stood atop the mountain's crest,

The world unfolded at my feet,

With sun and moon within my chest,

I spoke to God, in silence sweet."
